History
Government Polytechnic, Vellore has been started in Sept 1959 @ Broadway Chennai by name North Arcot Polytechnic in the II five year plan as one of the centrally sponsored Polytechnics.
Two batches of Students in 1959-60 and 1960-61 were admitted @ Broadway, Chennai. The Polytechnic was shifted to Vellore in June 1961 and temporarily housed in a rented building in Lakshmi Garden, Officer line, Vellore. Finally the Polytechnic has been shifted to the present Sylvan campus with new buildings of its own, adjoining the Thorapadi village in Sept 1963
